Beit Issie Shapiro kicks off a three-week long Festival of events, “We Are All Similar – We Are All Special”!! Events are sponsored by Credit Suisse and in partnership with the Municipality of Ra’anana.

16.11 Thursday at 4:45pm – “Itamar Meets A Rabbit”, an opera for children
Based on David Grossman’s beloved children’s book, set to the music of Yoni Rechter.
The play tells of a brave friendship between Itamar and the rabbit – both of them are afraid
Of the stranger and the unfamiliar, but learn to know each other and become friends.
The play conveys messages of coexistence and mutual dialogue in a style full of grace and humor.

24.11 Friday at 9:00am – “The Belaya Family” – Film + Lecture by Ilan Damati
“The Belaya Family” – all the Belaya family are deaf, Except for sixteen-year-old Paula, who translates the world to her parents and younger brother and helps them in their daily lives. But no one prepared her for the moment when she would discover her destiny and would have to part with her family.
Ilan Damati, musician and creator, reveals an exciting personal story and shares how from within a world of silence, his dream to become a successful musician was born, and fulfilled.

29.11 Wednesday at 10:15am – Gaga Worksho
Ohad Naharin’s language of movement is adapted for people with disabilities and the general public and is taught by instructors from the Batsheva Dance Company. This workshop allows you to explore, strengthen, and develop flexibility in the body and awaken the senses and imagination

3.12 Sunday 5:00pm – “Freedom to Move,” a play for children and young adults by the Haifa Theater
Award-winning play by Gedouna Raz and Sharon Burstein, directed by Norman Issa
Glimpse the inner world of a hyperactive child with attention deficit problems who finds that music turns his wild energies into creativity and poetry, and thus achieves self-control, security, success in his studies and close relationships with those around him.

“Accessible at the Bar” is a series of lectures by opinion leaders with disabilities in Israeli society and inspiring models of capability in the face of challenge, given at bars in Ra’anana.

3.12 Sunday 20:00 – “Accessible at the Bar” with Noam Gershuni
Noam Gershuni – A former Air Force pilot, Noam was critically wounded in an Apache helicopter crash during the Second Lebanon War. His rehabilitation is considered a medical miracle. Noam began to practice tennis at Beit Halohem and became a tennis player, leading in Israel’s national team for the handicapped. His amazing story ended with a gold medal at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London
A special lecture by a special man, a pilot, a cripple and a champion who can count many great achievements his own due to the sheer force of his willpower and motivation.

6.12 Tuesday 20:00 – “Accessible at the Bar” with Pascal Berkowitz
In her moving lecture “Against All Odds,” Pascal tells the incredible story of her struggle after losing both her legs in a terrible train crash. Her fascinating life story is a story of power and striving for excellence.
Pascal is an Olympic athlete, a mother of two daughters, a lecturer and a writer who captivates audiences each time, and demonstrates that with strength of will, nothing can stand your way.

10.12 Sunday 20:00 – “Accessible at the Bar” with Captain Ziv Shilon
A day before he finished his post as commander of a ground unit in the Givati Brigade, he was critically wounded during operational activity in the Gaza Strip during the Second Lebanon War. Hear Ziv’s fascinating and unique lecture about his special way of healing and fulfillment that rouses audiences’ spirits.
