Costume Make-a-thon

Last week, Beit Issie Shapiro hosted a costume make-a-thon. The hall was a bustle of creativity and joy. 30 children and youth with disabilities that use mobility devices, and their families, came and worked together with student volunteers from the design department of the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) to turn their wheelchairs or walkers into beautiful accessories for their Purim costumes.

The idea came from the children and their parents who have said in the past that the wheelchair or walker often hides the child’s costume. Through the students’ creative work, the device became an improvement to the costume, something to make it more original. A wheelchair became Cinderella’s carriage and a walker turned into Pocahontas’ horse.

This is the second year that we are hosting this successful event together with HIT and we hope it is a tradition for years to come! We would like to thank T-Center Ra’anana, Dani from Perfect Trade, “The Social Cookie”, Roee from Pizza Pizazz Ra’anana, Yoav Shani and Alex from Awesome Tel Aviv, Little Michal, Lautman Creative Supplies, Hop!, volunteers from the synagogue “Ohel Ari”, and the Gitler Family for their contributions to this incredible event.
