Over the last few years, we have witnessed the accelerated development of technology and the power it has to cause significant change in the lives of people with disabilities.
Use of technology has always been a significant part of our work at Beit Issie Shapiro, but since the introduction of the iPad to our day programs, we have witnessed a true revolution – a whole new world has opened up for our children. The iPad gives them a voice, encourages interaction and awakens motivation and initiation. It strengthens their sense of capability and self-confidence (“I am like everyone else”), contributes to their integration into society, and promotes independence and participation.
The apps we use serve a variety of purposes: play and leisure, communication and interaction, learning, motor and cognitive skills training, building life skills, sharing experiences, and more.
We continue to be moved and excited each time we see the degree to which technology assists our children to be active participants in their daily lives.
The purpose of our blog is to share our knowledge and experience regarding the use of computers and iPads with people with disabilities. We will provide tips and insights from the field, reviews and recommendations of useful apps and tips for adaptation and relevant assistive devices. We will share our dilemmas and our successes, and provide information about industry news and upcoming events and conferences.
We would love to hear your feedback, answer questions, and hear about things that are of interest to you or that you are experiencing.
